Customise experience and education sections with parsed data tags

Learn how to customise your experience and education sections with data tags.

Updated over 3 weeks ago

You can watch a full walkthrough of this process in this video:

Use parsed data AI tags to format your Work Experience and Education sections with structured control, without relying on free text fields.

📌 Note: This process uses AI prompts and requires access to the AI Prompts area and template editing features.

Edit experience and education sections using AI tags

With the latest update, you can embed AI tags directly into structured Experience or Education items. This replaces the previous method of using free text fields and manual AI tag insertion.

📌 Note: You can use this method to format text inline, e.g., inserting company size, or generate entire Experience or Education sections.

Create your AI prompts

Use the AI Builder to create and configure the prompts that will power your parsed data tags.

  1. Go to the AI Builder area.

  2. Click New Prompt.

  3. Give your prompt a name. Example: Custom Company Size.

  4. Enable Advanced Mode.

  5. Select the Data Source section.

  6. Click to apply the prompt to Experience or Education item.

  7. Paste your prompt logic. Example: a prompt that extracts or formats the company size.

  8. Test the prompt, then click Save.

    • 📌 Note: Be specific with your prompts. Avoid vague instructions like 'Do this for every work experience' as this can present inconsistent content across multiple entries.

  9. Repeat these steps to create additional prompts for:

    • Custom role descriptions.

    • Highlights.

    • Any AI-generated text tag.

Apply prompts to your template

Once your prompts are saved, add them to the relevant template sections.

  1. Open the template you want to customise.

  2. Replace standard fields with your AI tag fields. Example:

    • Replace Company with Company Size.

    • Or Comments with your Text Tag.

  3. If needed, select a different design variant for the section:

    • Some variants include date fields like Start Date / End Date that can be retained.

    • You can select the Blank design for a fully customised layout.

    • 📌 Note: Different design variants contain different default fields. Choose the variant based on what you want to retain.

  4. Re-apply the template structure with your updated tags.

Make the template live and test it

Test your updated template against a real candidate Curriculum Vitae (CV) before using it in production.

  1. Ensure your template is marked as Live.

  2. Upload a candidate's CV and apply the template.

  3. Observe the output.

  4. Check that fields now reflect your custom AI formatting, such as company size or detailed bullet points.

  5. Check that formatting aligns with your intent.

Best practices

  • Test prompts on sample CVs.

  • Use clear and structured logic in your parsed data prompts to avoid inconsistent outputs.

  • Review your template layout to ensure AI tags align with the section design.

FAQs

Q1: What happens if a prompt returns no result for a candidate entry?

  • Answer: If a prompt doesn't generate a result, the field will appear empty in the template. Test your prompts on a range of sample CVs before applying them to live templates.

Q2: Can I use the same AI prompt in more than one template?

  • Answer: Yes. Once a prompt is saved in the AI Builder, you can apply it to any template that supports AI tags. You don't need to recreate prompts for each template.

Q3: Can I use parsed data tags in sections other than Experience and Education?

  • Answer: This method is designed for structured Experience and Education sections. For other sections, you can continue to use AI tags via the free text field.

Q4: How do I choose which design variant to use?

  • Answer: Choose a variant based on the fields you need to retain. If you want to keep date fields like Start Date or End Date, select a variant that includes them. For a fully custom layout, select the Blank design.

Q5: What is the difference between free text field AI tags and parsed data tags?

  • Answer: Free text fields allow manual AI tag insertion without structured formatting. Parsed data tags embed AI tags directly into structured Experience or Education items, giving you more consistent and controlled formatting across entries.
